URGENT: Greenville Doctors on Call Program Airs April 20–More Physicians Needed!

The 2011 WITN Doctors will air next Wednesday, April 20, 12:00 pm – 6:00 pm, but only twenty-three physicians have volunteered to answer the expected large volume of calls. Last year, more than thirty physicians took calls from nearly 600 viewers.

If you can help, even for just a short time, please volunteer for Doctors on Call online, or contact Lyric Wohlgemuth (NCMS) at 800-722-1350 or [email protected],  or Karen Bean (Pitt County Medical Society) at 252-758-8833 or [email protected].

Doctors on Call originates from the WITN-TV studio in Greenville and seeks to promote access by allowing viewers to talk with a physician for free.

WITN has hosted the community outreach program for more than twenty years, in association with the Pitt County and North Carolina Medical Societies. Unfortunately, it has become increasingly more difficult to recruit volunteers in recent years, making it necessary for us to consider whether we can continue this community outreach initiative. The NCMS and WITN underwrite the costs of producing the program, and we will need to assess our return on investment in order to determine if we can proceed in 2012. If you have any comments or suggestions, please contact Mike Edwards, [email protected] or call 800-722-1350, ext, 112. Thank you.
