Governor Appoints Pediatrician as Chair of the NCCPH

Governor Beverly Perdue has appointed Ronald B. May, MD, as Chair of the NC Commission for Public Health (NCCPH). The NCMS House of Delegates voted to endorse Dr. May’s appointment at the 2009 Annual Meeting. He was first appointed to the Commission in 2001 and succeeds long-time Chair Jesse Meredith, MD, of Winston-Salem, who retired in 2009. Dr. May is a pediatrician and practices in New Bern. He joined the NCMS in 1984 and has been practicing in North Carolina since 1974. He received his MD from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine.

    When will the NCMS House of Delegates appoint a physician from western NC to to the Commission for Public Health? Two well qualified candidates were passed over last year, one from Shelby and one from Asheville.
