Q&A

q: You referred to rural areas losing physicians and being taken over by bigger and bigger hospitals.  How do you see fixing that?

A: Insurers are only benefited by expanding their pool, therefore spreading the risk.  We want to ignite the opportunity for insuring the uninsured.  That will make risk less for insurers and we’d see premiums go down.  Like Medicare Part D.

A high risk pool encourages the wrong attitude, to use all healthcare available regardless of need.

If insurers risk goes down, reimbursement could go up.

Q: As a pediatrician, we want all children to be covered.  Insurance benefits need to meet the standards set by the AAP. Is that included in your bill?

A: Not sure if pediatrics is specially noted.  We are focused on coverage for all North Carolinians.
