  • Health Care System Reform Draws More Debate

    More questions were raised about proposed health care system reform legislation as the Baucus health care reform bill was voted out of the Senate Finance Committee on Wednesday. Senator Olympia Snowe (R, Maine) sided with Democrats to give the proposed plan a favorable recommendation. Senate leaders are now seeking to craft a single Senate package for floor consideration.

  • More H1N1 Vaccine Heading to NC

    State public health officials are awaiting more shipments of H1N1 flu vaccine as initial supplies have been depleted at clinics across the state. Supplies of the vaccine are being shipped to North Carolina and other states from the federal stockpile and are expected to arrive next week.

  • New BCBSNC Addendum

    BCBSNC has sent out contract addenda to many physician practices in order to comply with Senate Bill 877 Fair Contracting. Senate Bill 877 was a major legislative priority of North Carolina physicians and medical group managers in the 2009 session. NCMS is reviewing the BCBSNC addenda and has concerns related to the contact notice provision, pricing policy disclosure, availability of new fees and other provisions.

  • Medicaid Provider Rate Cut Implemented Oct. 1

    Comments from physicians have poured in to the NCMS following the NC Medicaid announcement on Tuesday that it would make a 9% cut to all but 89 specific codes used by physicians and other providers caring for Medicaid patients. NCMS and other physician groups have met with numerous state officials and offered complete accessibility to physicians for a dialogue about the proposed cuts. This level of cut to the provider rate services was not discussed in advance.

  • Rule Change Proposed for Temporary Order Issued September 24

    The NC Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is asking physicians and other public health partners to comment on a proposed temporary rule change for Rule 10A NCAC 41A .0101. The proposed rule change will keep influenza deaths in adults reportable when the Temporary Order expires, 90 days after October 1, 2009.
