Medicaid Provider Rate Cut Implemented Oct. 1
Comments from physicians have poured in to the NCMS following the NC Medicaid announcement on Tuesday that it would make a 9% cut to all but 89 specific codes used by physicians and other providers caring for Medicaid patients. NCMS and other physician groups have met with numerous state officials and offered complete accessibility to physicians for a dialogue about the proposed cuts. This level of cut to the provider rate services was not discussed in advance.

Rule Change Proposed for Temporary Order Issued September 24
The NC Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is asking physicians and other public health partners to comment on a proposed temporary rule change for Rule 10A NCAC 41A .0101. The proposed rule change will keep influenza deaths in adults reportable when the Temporary Order expires, 90 days after October 1, 2009.

State Health Director Discusses Recent H1N1 Activity and What Physicians Need to Know
State Health Director Jeffrey Engel, MD visited the NCMS on September 24th to discuss the latest statistics and impact of the H1N1 virus on North Carolina. Dr. Engel discussed what physicians need to know about the virus and H1N1 vaccinations, including dispelling rumors about the vaccine.
